After 30 years in childcare, I made a career change into the social service field and have been in this field for 18 years. It was the best choice I ever made.

The social service field, and working with the intellectually disabled community in particular, is where my heart is and needs to be. The work we do every day, seeing smiles on our clients' faces and seeing our clients living their best lives, warms my heart. The awesome clients we get to serve every day! The awesome team of staff, assistant managers, and managers we have! They make coming to work fun and enjoyable, even on the most difficult days.

I enjoy the outdoors, reading, relaxing, and spending time with my family.

When I was 10, my neighbor was a nurse at Agnew State Hospital. I volunteered for the summer and helped with elderly patients with dementia and Alzheimer's. I continued each summer until I was 14, assisting in different departments, sometimes with patients with severe developmental issues, a couple of months with children who were non-responsive due to trauma, and also with adults deemed criminally insane. It struck me then how people without a voice were left behind, not given a chance to grow or experience life outside those institutional walls.

I was introduced to Greater Opportunities by a friend who was an SLS provider. She would occasionally invite me to join her with her client when they went out. She noticed how I spoke to him, included him in our conversations, and suggested I apply. Now, three years later, I love our clients and being a part of their growth. I love knowing that now, people with special needs can thrive by having jobs, their own homes, relationships, and even having families of their own.

After working as an Electrician for 12 years, and an Electrical Instructor for the last 9 years, I am changing it up and devoting myself to this wonderful company. My dream is to make a lasting difference and give people with special needs, like my grandson, a voice that the previous generations never had.

I've always felt strongly about advocating for marginalized communities. My father helped me find work in the company at the age of 16. I started as a videographer filming staff meetings before moving on to teach classes at our transitional housing program. Since then, I've worked for Greater Opportunities for over 10 years in all 4 programs, as an administrative support and now as the ILS Assistant Coordinator.

I enjoy helping adults with intellectual disabilities strengthen their independence and match them with people that will help them reach their goals. Our clients and those who work hard to support them deserve the best, and I strive to give them that.

I have always been passionate about filmmaking and game development.

What brought me to this field is the passion I have for helping people and the community. Being in this field allows me to help individuals live a positive and fulfilling life where they can maintain their independence.

What I enjoy about working here is helping individuals with their personal goals. Living a safe and healthy lifestyle where they feel comfortable and supportived.

During my free time, I love to spend time with my family and go out to new places.

While studying Social Work in college, I worked various jobs. One of the jobs I had was a DSP position at a group home. Once I graduated college I landed a Case Management position for an SLS Agency.

I enjoy working with the same group of clients while also getting the opportunity to work with new clients. It's nice working at a place that has many committed DSPs in the SLS department and feeling supported by my direct supervisor.

I like going on hikes and staying active.

What brought me to this field of work is my passion for helping others. I find joy in making a positive impact on someone’s life. At Greater Opportunities, I take pride in leading my team to perform at their best every day.

One of the things I appreciate most about Greater Opportunities is the exceptional leadership from management, which fosters a supportive and positive work environment.

Outside of work, I enjoy playing basketball and spending time outdoors through activities like hiking, bike riding, and camping.

What first brought me to this field of work was my cousin. He was on the waitlist for the Day Program until the company had more staff. I applied in order for him to get the services he needed. Now, what keeps me in this field are the differences in people's lives that we, and all the other staff, have on our clients. I understand that we play an important role, and that motivates me to assist in any way that I can.

What I enjoy most about working at GO is being able to be myself. I feel that my personality and humor have helped to create a great atmosphere for clients and staff to be open. I always look forward to coming to work and interacting with everyone here.

My main hobby is writing songs and playing guitar. Whenever I have the time, I also enjoy painting, photography, and going on road trips.

I majored in Biology and Environmental Studies at UCSC, but upon graduation, I started in accounting, doing temporary jobs. I was good at it, enjoyed working with numbers, and it became my career.

I enjoy working for non-profits. The staff are dedicated, driven by the agency's mission vs. money, and I feel I contribute to their success. GO, in particular, is a great community of staff and clients, with many moving parts to keep me engaged and challenged.

I love the outdoors. Walking my dog in my neighborhood, hiking a trail, and enjoying the beach brings me peace. I also love to read novels and fall down rabbit holes learning interesting things on YouTube.

My choice of career path is the result of two of my passions: social work and accounting. I originally intended to major in social work but also found accounting rewarding. My career allows me to blend these two interests and do accounting work within the social work sector.

I am very passionate about helping others, and I find it rewarding to assist our consumers with their financial needs, as well as support our Direct Support Professionals with payroll and benefits.

When I am not working, I love being in the great outdoors. My favorite place to be is near a body of water. It can be any body of water, such as a beautiful lake or ocean. Just as long as I am outside!

I was drawn to this work because I’ve always enjoyed helping others and wanted to do something meaningful. Even though I’m just getting started, I already see how rewarding it is.

What I really enjoy about working here is the strong sense of community. It feels like we are all part of something meaningful, and every day we have the chance to make a real difference.

My hobbies include golfing, music, and cooking. I enjoy golfing because it helps me relax and spend time outdoors. Music keeps me energized and inspired, and cooking is something I like to do, especially trying new recipes and making something delicious!

Hi! I'm Brandon, GO's tech support! I have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science California State University, East Bay. I was referred to this position by a friend from Church.

While it was more or less a random conversation that led me to this job, I didn't expect it to bring me the chance to meet some awesome people and help out in a way that I can.

When I'm not working, I like to play video games, volleyball, read and draw a little.
