Elizabeth has been coming to the Greater Opportunities Day Program for two years, and is excited about her new job at Hometown Buffet the center has helped her get.
“I like coming here because I get out,” she said. “And I have a lot of friends here.” She is a big sports fan, especially of the San Francisco Giants. She also is a football fan, but prefers the Oakland Raiders to the San Francisco 49ers.
She has a pet cat at home named B.P., named for Giants catcher Buster Posey.
A participant in the Supported Living Program, she enjoys cooking at home. And, not surprisingly, given her Sicilian heritage, her favorite dish to make is spaghetti.
Most of her family lives up in the Boise, ID, area. So the support she receives from Greater Opportunities is critically important to her. Any plans to move up to Boise?
“No!” she said, adamantly. “Too much snow. I can’t stand the winters there.”
Because of Greater Opportunities and its Supported Living Program, Elizabeth doesn’t have to. She can stay in warm and sunny San Jose, where she has an apartment, a job, friends, and a life of her own.
